Boulder Lake is a hard hike in the Missoula Ranger District of Lolo National Forest in western Montana, managed by the Forest Service. The trail is about 11 miles long, with an elevation gain of about 1,176 feet, and it runs out and back, starting at a low point of about 5,659 feet and reaching a high of about 7,129 feet. The route is rated hard, and the natural surface adds to the challenge. The trail makes a good pairing with other outings in the area. The closest neighbor is the Three Cougars mountain biking trail, less than a mile away, and the West Fork Gold Creek hike is about a mile off. Mineral Peak lies about 3.4 miles away, and the Northwest Region climbing area is roughly 5 miles away.
