Mud Brook is a 3.2-mile out-and-back hike in the Androscoggin Ranger District of the White Mountain National Forest in Maine. The trail runs on natural surface, is not accessible, and crosses from a low point of 938 feet to a high of 1,518 feet, with a round-trip elevation gain of about 1,350 feet. The steepest stretch comes early, around 0.4 miles in, where the grade reaches about 21 percent. The Forest Service manages the land. The route works year-round, and the estimated time is about 1.5 hours. Summer is the most comfortable time to go. Typical July averages from a nearby weather station run near 79°F for highs and 57°F for lows, and the station sits several hundred feet lower than the trail's high point, so expect it to run a bit cooler up top. Haystack Notch lies about 0.7 miles away and the Haystack Notch Trail about 1.2 miles. Hastings Campground is about 2.3 miles off, and the WM: Evans Notch climbing area is roughly 4.2 miles away.
