Maine

About

Butters Mountain is a summit of 2,246 feet in the Caribou-Speckled Mountain Wilderness, part of the Saco Ranger District of White Mountain National Forest in western Maine. The nearest town is Bethel, about 9 miles away. Summer is the most comfortable time to go. Typical averages from the nearby Pinkham Notch weather station run to highs around 75°F in July, with lows in the low 50s. That station sits at nearly the same elevation as the summit, so its figures are a fair guide. The Great Brook Trail starts less than a mile away, and Haystack Notch and the MILES NOTCH TRAIL are both within about 2 miles. For an overnight base, Hastings Campground is roughly 4.4 miles off.
