North Fork McKim is a hard hike in the Leadore Ranger District of Idaho's Salmon-Challis National Forest, about 7 miles from the town of Elk Bend. The trail is an out-and-back that climbs from roughly 6,900 feet to about 9,800 feet, with a total gain of about 526 feet one way over a route of about 12 miles. The trail is on natural surface, and it is open to both horses and bikes, according to the Forest Service's trail records. Several other hikes sit close by. Upper Bear Valley Lakes is under a mile away, and Basin Creek-High and Allison-Bear Valley are each about a mile off. Buck Lake is roughly 2 miles away.
