Minnetonka is a short, easy hike on the Montpelier Ranger District of Idaho's Caribou-Targhee National Forest, managed by the Forest Service. It's an out-and-back trail of about a mile, with a low point around 7,079 feet and a high of about 7,570 feet, making the climb about 477 feet one way. Summer is the most comfortable time to go. Typical averages from a nearby weather station run to highs near 81°F in July, while winter brings highs in the low 30s and snow on several days a month from December through February. That station sits well below the trail, so temperatures on the route run cooler. The trip is open from about June 1 to October 31. Bikes and horses are allowed on the natural-surface trail. Porcupine and Cloverleaf campgrounds are both about 0.2 miles away. Middle Fk. St. Charles is about 0.9 miles off, and Limekiln is about 2.3 miles away.
