Maple Creek is a hard hike in Idaho's Caribou-Targhee National Forest, within the Montpelier Ranger District. The trail is an out-and-back that starts at about 8,575 feet and climbs to a high point of 8,635 feet, with a total elevation gain of 5,414 feet over the course of the trip. The steepest stretch comes early, at about 0.45 miles in, where the grade reaches 39 percent. The route is 7.3 miles long and is open year-round. It is a natural-surface trail, and both horses and bikes are allowed. Plan for about five hours on the trail. Nearby, Sugar Creek and Corral Hollow are both hikes within about 3.5 miles. Egan Basin Guard Station and Willow Flat Campground offer camping within about 6 miles.
