Crooked Creek is a hard hike in Idaho's Caribou-Targhee National Forest, within the Montpelier Ranger District. The trail is an out-and-back that climbs from about 5,500 feet to nearly 9,000 feet, with a total elevation gain of about 3,200 feet over a route of roughly 11.5 miles. The Forest Service manages the land, and the trail is open year-round. The route is natural-surface and allows both horses and bikes, so it works for riders and pack animals as well as hikers. Plan for a full day on foot, and expect the climb to be the main challenge. White Canyon and Deep Creek are both within about 2 miles, and the Cub River offers canoeing a little farther out. For an overnight base, High Creek Campground sits about 5 miles away.
