White Canyon is a hard hike in Idaho's Forest Service lands, about 1.9 miles from the town of Cherryville. The route is an out-and-back that climbs from a low point of 5,778 feet to a high of 9,085 feet, with a total elevation gain of 2,875 feet over a distance of about 17.5 miles. The trail is natural-surfaced and allows both horses and bikes, so it works for riders and pack animals as well as hikers. It is open year-round, and the Forest Service manages the land. The climb is a long one, and the route is rated hard. Plan on a full day, and consider starting early to allow time for the ascent and descent. Deep Creek lies just 0.2 miles away, and Crooked Creek is about 1.6 miles off. The Cub River, a canoeing spot, is roughly 3.2 miles away, and High Creek Campground is about 3.3 miles away.
