Little Jacket is a hard hike of about 33 miles round trip on natural trail surface in the Salmon-Cobalt Ranger District of Idaho's Salmon-Challis National Forest. The trail rises from a low point of about 5,133 feet to a high of about 8,980 feet, with a total elevation gain of nearly 3,000 feet. The Forest Service manages the land, and the route works for hikers, riders and horseback travelers. It is not an accessible trail. Several shorter hikes lie close by, including Lower Yellowjacket, Dry Gulch and Duck Creek Point, each within about 2 miles. Yellowjacket Guard Station campground sits about 5 miles away.
