Big Wood Loop is a 5.8-mile out-and-back hike in Idaho's Sawtooth National Recreation Area, part of the Sawtooth National Forest. The trail rises from about 7,489 feet to about 8,193 feet, a climb of 668 feet, and is rated moderate. The Forest Service manages the land, and the trail is open year-round. The route is natural-surfaced and allows both horses and bikes, so it works for riders and pack animals as well as hikers. The climb is spread across the full length of the loop, with the high point near the top of the route. Several other trails sit close by. Horse Creek Loop Ski and Northwood are each about 0.3 miles away, and Enid's is about half a mile off. For an overnight stay, Chemeketan Campground is about 4.6 miles away.
