Fdr-23A-Nimblewill Branch is an easy, out-and-back hike of about 2.4 miles in the Blue Ridge Ranger District of the Chattahoochee-Oconee National Forests in north Georgia. The trail rises from a low point of about 1,630 feet to a high of about 1,824 feet, with a total elevation gain of about 422 feet over the round trip. The steepest stretch comes at about 0.9 miles in, where the grade reaches about 11 percent. The route is on natural surface and is open to both horses and bikes, so it works for riders and equestrians as well as hikers. The Forest Service manages the land, and the trail is open year-round. A trip should take about an hour. Spring and fall are the most comfortable times to go. Typical averages from a nearby weather station in Blairsville show October highs around 70°F with lows near 43°F, and May highs around 76°F. Summer runs warmer, with July highs near 85°F. The Parallel Trail starts just 0.1 mile away, and the Nimblewill Branch -C Spur is about 0.4 mile off. Paddlers can reach the Etowah River about 3 miles away, and climbers will find Cochran Falls roughly 6 miles out.
