Pine Cone
About
Pine Cone is a summit in north-central Connecticut, about 4 miles from the town of Salmon Brook. It sits among a cluster of trails and climbing areas, which makes it a natural anchor for a day of hiking or bouldering close to the Farmington River valley. Late summer into early fall is the most comfortable stretch for a visit. Typical September averages from a nearby weather station in Barkhamsted run to highs around 75°F and lows near 51°F. That station sits a few hundred feet below the summit, so temperatures on top run slightly cooler. The closest trail is Pine Cone Trail, about 0.7 miles away. Diamond Cluster and the Warm up Wall in the Frances B. Petersen Preserve offer climbing about 1.3 miles off, and Lookout Trail lies roughly 1.4 miles from the summit.
