Nayantaquit Trail is a 3.3-mile hike in Connecticut, about a mile from Sterling City. It is an easy route with a total elevation gain of 546 feet, and the climb is steepest at about 2.7 miles in, where the grade reaches 28 percent. The trail starts at roughly 397 feet and reaches a high point of 444 feet before descending to a low of 115 feet. Late spring and early fall are the most comfortable times to go. Typical averages from a nearby weather station in Groton show May highs around 66°F and September highs around 74°F, with July the warmest month at about 81°F. That station sits about 400 feet lower than the trail, so temperatures on the route run a little cooler. The trail links up with other routes close by. Uncas Pond and Crossover Trail both start within a tenth of a mile, and Balanced Rock Trail is about half a mile away. Climbers can find the East Lyme Property about half a mile off.
