Sunset is a cross-country ski route in western Colorado, within the Grand Valley Ranger District of the Grand Mesa, Uncompahgre and Gunnison National Forests. The Forest Service manages the land, and the route sits at about 10,600 feet, with the high point at 10,667 feet and the low point at 10,602 feet. The climb is short and moderate. The route is about 1.7 miles long and gains roughly 34 feet, with the steepest section at about 1.2 miles in, where the grade reaches 11%. That puts the route on the easier end of cross-country skiing. Winter is the season for it. Typical averages from a nearby weather station show January highs around 26°F and lows near 6°F. The station sits about 800 feet lower, so temperatures on the route run a little cooler. Summit Trail lies just 0.1 mile away, and the Skyway Ski Summit hike is the same distance. Spruce Grove Campground is about 1.3 miles off, and Grand Mesa, about 3.8 miles away, offers pier fishing.
