Java Wall is a sport climbing area in the Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area in California, managed by the National Park Service. It sits among a cluster of climbing spots, with Left Flank, The Upper Tier and The Grotto all about 0.1 mile away. The name Java Wall comes from the climbing routes that anchor the area, and the wall itself is a compact, high-grade destination for sport climbers. The climbing here is all sport, and the routes run from about 5.11a up to 5.13a. Java, the namesake route, is a 5.11d, and Kona is the hardest at 5.13a. The area is best suited for climbers who want to tackle a range of 5.11s and a few 5.12s and 5.13s in a single outing. Spring and fall are the most comfortable times to go. Typical averages from a nearby weather station show April highs around 78°F and October highs around 85°F, while July and August average in the mid-90s. That station sits well below the wall, so temperatures on the wall run cooler. The Mishe Mokwa Trail is about 0.3 mile away, and the Backbone Trail is about 0.7 mile away. Circle X Ranch Group Campground, about 1.2 miles off, is the closest place to camp.
