Cracked Wall is a climbing area in California's Bunnell Open Space, a city-managed open space. It sits among a cluster of other climbing spots and hiking trails, making it a compact base for a day on the rock or a walk on the perimeter. The area's climbing is a mix of sport, mixed and trad routes, with 27 routes in total. Grades run from 5.3 up to 5.12, and the median is about 5.10b/c. Some named routes include Dirty Rat's Crack (trad, 5.3), Choss Boss Direct (sport, 5.9), Burn Permit (sport, 5.10c/d) and Jetstream (sport, 5.12). Mixed climbers can try Civilized Evil, a 5.10a that dates back to 1981. Summer and early fall are the driest stretch. Typical averages from a nearby weather station show highs around 78 to 80°F with no wet days in July through September, while winter brings highs near 64 to 65°F and about 8 to 9 wet days a month. The station sits a few hundred feet lower than the wall, so temperatures on the climb run a little cooler. Several climbing areas and the Bishop Peak Trail lie within a tenth of a mile. For an overnight stay, Cerro Alto is about 9 miles away and Morro Bay State Park Campground is just under 10 miles.
