Route 1 - San Luis Obispo North Coast Byway is a 57.9-mile scenic drive in California, designated both an All-American Road and a California State Scenic Highway. It links San Luis Obispo with the stretch of coast from Morro Bay to San Simeon, passing through Cayucos, Cambria and the California Polytechnic State University campus along the way. Late summer into early fall is the driest stretch. Typical averages from a nearby weather station show highs around 80°F in August and September with almost no wet days, while winter brings highs in the mid-60s and about nine wet days a month. The drive makes a natural base for short outings. Morro Bay State Park Campground sits about 0.4 miles from the route, and the Powerline Trail and Fleming Loop are each about 0.3 miles away. Climbers can head to Toprope Boulder, also about 0.4 miles off.
