The Hangout Area is a climbing area in Vallecito Open Space, on Regional Agency Land in California. It sits among a cluster of climbing spots and boulders, with several named areas within a tenth of a mile. Spring and late fall are the most comfortable times to visit. Typical averages from the Camarillo airport weather station, about 7 miles away and a few hundred feet lower, run from highs around 68°F in December and January to about 80°F in September, with no wet days in June through August. Because that station sits lower than the Hangout Area, temperatures on the climb tend to run a little cooler. Close by, the Mystery Science Theater and Upper Irish Boulders climbing areas are each about 0.1 mile away, and the Powerline Trail and Index Finger Trail are both within half a mile. For an overnight stay, Circle X Ranch Group Campground is about 6 miles away.
