Island Lake is an easy hike of about 1.2 miles in the Dinkey Lakes Wilderness, part of the High Sierra Ranger District of Sierra National Forest in California. The Forest Service manages the land, and the trail is a short out-and-back that gains about 200 feet in elevation, from roughly 9,600 to 9,800 feet. The trail is natural-surfaced and allows horses, and it is not accessible. Bikes are not allowed. The most comfortable time to go is summer, when typical averages from a nearby weather station run in the low to mid 80s °F. Winter brings typical averages in the low 20s. Little Lake is about 0.3 miles away and Mystery Lake about 0.5 miles. Climbers can head to the Western Sierra area, about 3.4 miles off, and Voyager Rock campground is about 6 miles away.
