Red Fir is a short mountain biking route in California's High Sierra Ranger District of the Sierra National Forest, about 1.6 miles long and 138 feet in elevation gain, with a high point of 7,540 feet and a low of 7,432 feet. It is a low-key outing, with a gentle climb from the lower end of the ride. Summer is the most comfortable time to go. A nearby weather station at Huntington Lake records typical July and August highs around 74°F with lows near 49°F and only one or two wet days a month. That station sits about 520 feet below the route, so temperatures on this climb run a little cooler. The Sunset and Tamarack trailheads both sit within half a mile and make good pairing stops. Farther out, the Camp 72 climbing area and Pitman Creek are about 3 miles away.
