Fanani Soldier is an easy hike of about 1.9 miles in the Almanor Ranger District of Lassen National Forest in California, managed by the Forest Service. The trail is an out-and-back with a low point of about 4,654 feet and a high of about 4,706 feet, so the climb is only about 43 feet one way. The trail surface is natural, and bikes are allowed. For the most comfortable conditions, aim for late spring or early fall. Typical averages from the nearby Chester weather station show May highs around 67°F and September highs near 79°F, with July and August the warmest months at about 85°F. Soldier Meadows campground sits just 0.2 miles away. Paddlers can head to Butt Creek, about 2.3 miles off, or the North Fork Feather River, about 2.6 miles away. The Lake Almanor Recreation Trail is about 3.6 miles from the trail.
