West Branch is a Forest Service campground in the Happy Camp Ranger District of Klamath National Forest in northern California. It sits on land managed by the Forest Service, and its simplicity makes it an easy base for a day or a longer stay in the area. The site has vault toilets, and there is no fee to stay. That makes it a straightforward stop for anyone looking for a simple, low-cost option in the forest. Late spring and early fall tend to be the most comfortable times to visit. Typical averages from a nearby weather station in Cave Junction, Oregon, show May highs around 76°F with lows near 42°F and October highs around 72°F, while July and August average highs near 94°F. That station sits several hundred feet lower than the campground, so temperatures here run cooler. Several other spots lie within a few miles. Indian Creek, a canoeing route about 1.5 miles away, and the Kelly Lake-Poker Flat hike, roughly 2.3 miles off, are the closest. Paddlers can also reach South Fork Indian Creek, about 4.7 miles away. Across the state line in Oregon, Bolan Lake and Bolan Mountain Lookout are both about 5.9 miles away.
