Winter Cabin is a hard hike in the Clifton Ranger District of the Apache-Sitgreaves National Forests in eastern Arizona. The route is an out-and-back of about 8.5 miles, with a total elevation gain of 442 feet, taking you from a low point of about 4,690 feet to a high of about 6,185 feet. The Forest Service manages the land. The trail is open year-round, and the natural-surface route is open to horses and bikes. It is not an accessible trail. Spring and fall are the most comfortable times to go. Typical averages from a nearby weather station run to highs around 75°F in April and 76°F in October, while July and August average highs in the low 90s. Cow Flat is about 2.2 miles away, and Horse Mesa is about 2.6 miles off. Auger and the Blue River, a canoeing spot, are both within about 3 miles.
