Taawa is a moderate hike of about 4.2 miles in the Flagstaff Ranger District of Coconino National Forest in Arizona, managed by the Forest Service. The trail is an out-and-back with a total elevation gain of about 1,012 feet, rising from a low point of about 7,361 feet to a high of about 8,406 feet. Spring and fall are the most comfortable times to go. Typical averages from a nearby weather station at Ft Valley, which sits about 1,059 feet lower than the trail's high point, show May highs around 71°F and October highs around 66°F, while July and August bring the most wet days of the year. The trail starts close to other outdoor options. The Apollo and Rocky Ridge mountain biking routes are within a quarter mile, and the Big Bang hike is about 0.3 miles away. For an overnight stay, Little Elden Springs Horsecamp is about 4.2 miles off.
