Shorty #661A is a short, easy hike in the Red Rock Ranger District of Coconino National Forest in Arizona, about 0.28 miles long with a 53-foot elevation gain. It is an out-and-back route that starts and ends at nearly the same point, with the high point at 4,459 feet and the low at 4,406 feet. The Forest Service manages the land, and the trail is open to both horses and bikes, so it works for riders and equestrians as well as hikers. Spring and fall are the most comfortable times to go. Typical averages from a nearby weather station in Sedona show April highs around 75°F and October highs around 79°F, while July averages reach 97°F. The trail sits close to the Shorty mountain biking area, with the Grand Central and Powerline Plunge routes all about 0.1 mile away. Climbers can find Sphinx aka Cibola Mitten about a mile off, and Chavez Crossing campground is roughly 2.3 miles away.
