Hot Loop A #40A is an easy, out-and-back hike of about 3 miles in the Red Rock Ranger District of Coconino National Forest in Arizona. The trail rises from a low point of about 4,270 feet to a high of about 4,546 feet, a climb of roughly 106 feet one way. Spring and fall are the most comfortable times to go. Typical averages from a nearby weather station in Sedona show October highs around 79°F with lows near 51°F, and April highs around 75°F with lows near 44°F. Summer highs there typically reach the mid-90s. The trail is managed by the Forest Service and is open to both horses and bikes. The parking area is at Jacks Canyon, and the Hot Loop mountain biking route starts just 0.1 mile away. Hot Loop #40 is about 0.6 mile off. Climbers can head to Oak Creek Spire, about 2.2 miles away, and campers to Chavez Crossing, about 5.7 miles away.
