Hot Loop #40 is a hard hike in the Red Rock Ranger District of Coconino National Forest in northern Arizona, managed by the Forest Service. The route is an out-and-back of about 22 miles, with a one-way elevation gain of 2,426 feet, taking you from a low point of about 4,066 feet to a high of about 6,413 feet. The most comfortable months for a visit are typically May and September, when typical averages from a nearby weather station at Mund's Park run to highs around 69°F and 76°F, with lows near 34°F and 41°F. Summer brings more wet days, peaking at about 13 in August. Horses are allowed on the trail, but bikes are not. The Hot Loop mountain biking route starts just 0.1 mile away, and Hot Loop A #40 is about 0.6 mile off. Climbers can head to Oak Creek Spire and Courthouse Butte, both about 3 miles away.
