Dutchman Trail is a hard hike in the Mesa Ranger District of Arizona's Tonto National Forest, a point-to-point route of about 18.7 miles with a total elevation gain of 978 feet, from a low of 2,236 feet to a high of 3,243 feet. The Forest Service manages the land, and the trail lies within the Tonto National Forest's Mesa Ranger District. Spring and fall are the most comfortable times to go. Typical averages from a nearby weather station at Apache Junction show March highs around 77°F and November highs around 76°F, while June and July average in the low to mid 100s. That station sits about 1,200 feet lower than the trail's high point, so temperatures on the route run cooler. The trip starts at the Peralta trailhead and takes about 6.5 hours. The Grand Enchantment Trail and Hackberry Spring Trail both lie within about half a mile, and the Second Water Trail is close by. Climbers can head to The Iceberg, about 2 miles away.
