Ad Bar is a hard hike in the Clifton Ranger District of the Apache-Sitgreaves National Forests in eastern Arizona. It is an out-and-back route of about 24 miles, with a one-way climb of 1,770 feet from a low point of 4,655 feet to a high of 7,099 feet. The trail is on natural surface and is open to horses and mountain bikes. It is not an accessible trail. The Forest Service manages the land, and the trailhead is listed as Ad Bar Trailhead (#14). The trail is open year-round. Spring and fall are the most comfortable seasons to go. Typical averages from a nearby weather station run to highs around 77°F in May and 72°F in October, while July and August bring highs near 89°F and about 12 wet days a month. That station sits roughly 1,000 feet below the high point, so temperatures on the route run cooler. Mallet Trail is about 0.7 miles away, and Bear Pen Springs and Pipestem are both within about 2 miles. For an overnight base, Upper Juan Miller Campground is about 9 miles off.
