Rocky is an easy, short out-and-back hike in north Alabama, about 1.7 miles from the town of Hortons Mill. The route stretches roughly 1.9 miles, with a low point of 1,092 feet and a high of 1,271 feet. The climb totals 400 feet of gain and loss, with the steepest stretch at about 0.7 miles in, where the grade reaches 16 percent. October is a comfortable time to go. Typical averages from a nearby weather station in Oneonta run to highs around 75°F and lows near 51°F, with only about six wet days. That station sits a few hundred feet lower than the hike's high point, so temperatures on the higher ground run a little cooler. Palisades Park, a climbing area, lies just 0.1 mile away.
