The Pinhoti Trail is a hard hike of about 10 miles round trip in the Talladega Ranger District of the National Forests in Alabama. It rises from a low of about 900 feet to a high of about 1,525 feet, with a total gain of about 1,635 feet over the course of the out-and-back route. Spring and fall are the most comfortable times to go. Typical averages from a nearby weather station in Sylacauga run from highs around 75°F in April to 76°F in October, while July averages climb to about 90°F. That station sits roughly 1,000 feet lower than the trail's high point, so temperatures up top run cooler. The trail's steepest stretch comes around mile 3.2, where the grade reaches about 22 percent. Plan for about four hours on foot. Several other routes lie within a few miles.
