The Pinhoti Trail - Get Portion is a long-distance hiking route in Alabama that passes about 2.4 miles from the town of Unity. Rated expert, it covers nearly 209 miles one way, a serious undertaking suited to experienced hikers planning a multi-day trip or tackling it in sections. The route is an out-and-back, so walking the full length and returning means roughly 418 miles in total. One way, it gains about 24,350 feet. That climbing comes from repeated ups and downs rather than one sustained ascent. Elevations range from a low of about 550 feet to a high point near 2,300 feet, with the start sitting at roughly 790 feet. Fall is the most comfortable time to go. October typically brings highs around 76°F and lows near 51°F, based on averages from a nearby weather station at about 680 feet, so temperatures on the higher stretches run cooler. The trail is open to hikers only. Bikes and horses are not allowed. The Pinhoti National Recreation Trail and its Alternate Route both lie within half a mile, and the Eastern Continental Trail is about 0.6 miles away. For paddling, Weogufka Creek is roughly 10 miles off.
