Vanderbilt

Vanderbilt is a ghost town in San Bernardino County, California, born from a gold mining boom that burned bright and faded fast. The settlement sprang up in 1893 and was effectively finished by 1895 — a lifespan of just two years — though at its height it supported a population of roughly 400 people.

Visitors today will find little more than the sparse remnants typical of short-lived mining camps, set against the wide open terrain of San Bernardino County. It is a place best appreciated by those drawn to the quiet history embedded in the landscape rather than dramatic standing structures.
