Gannett Peak is a climbing area in the Bridger Wilderness of Wyoming's Shoshone National Forest, within the Wind River Ranger District. The Forest Service manages the surrounding land, and the peak sits in designated wilderness, so all planning must respect the rules of that protected setting. The area draws climbers with its alpine routes, including the Northeast Ridge, which was first climbed in 1949 by Bob Bates, Ad Carter, John Case and Waldo Holcombe. That route is listed at a YDS 5.6, and four of the five routes here are alpine in style. One route is an ice climb. The Gannett Peak Trail lies about a mile away, and the Glacier Trail is roughly 1.4 miles off. For more climbing, the Dinwoody Glacier Area and the Titcomb Basin Area are both within about 4 miles.
