Conant Basin is a hard hike in the Jedediah Smith Wilderness, part of the Caribou-Targhee National Forest's Ashton/Island Park Ranger District. The trail is managed by the Forest Service, and the nearest town is Judkins, Idaho, about 10 miles away. The route is an out-and-back of about 20 miles, with a one-way climb of roughly 2,300 feet from a low point of about 6,800 feet to a high of about 8,200 feet. Horses are allowed, and the trail is natural-surface. Bikes are not, and the trail is not accessible. Summer is the most comfortable time to go. Typical averages from a nearby weather station at a similar elevation show July highs around 77°F with lows near 38°F, while winter highs stay in the mid-20s. Several other hikes sit within a few miles, including Carrot Ridge, Red Mountain and Conant Pass. Squirrel Meadows Cabin is about 7 miles away.
