Roadside is a bouldering area in West Virginia, about a mile from the town of Neponset. It sits among a cluster of climbing spots, with BoulderCliff Area and Powerline Boulders both within a mile. The area has nine bouldering routes, all rated on the V scale from V0 to V6. The easiest is RE Slab at V0, and the hardest is Roadside Euphoria at V6. The median grade runs V3-4, so climbers can find problems to suit a range of abilities. For timing, late spring and early fall are the most comfortable. Typical averages from a nearby weather station at Bluestone Lake show May highs around 76°F and September highs around 79°F, with fewer wet days in September than in May. That station sits about 500 feet lower than the area, so temperatures here run a little cooler. Other climbing is close by, with the Savory Area and The Brain Boulder both under a mile away. For time off the rock, Rich Creek offers canoeing about 6 miles out, and Pipestem Knob Trail is a hike roughly 7 miles away.
