Savory Area is a climbing area in West Virginia, about 1.2 miles from the town of Neponset. It sits among a cluster of boulders and crags, with White Wall, The Brain Boulder and Lyman's Boulder all within about a tenth of a mile. The area is a compact base for climbers, with several boulders and routes close together. The climbing here is mixed, with 17 routes listed as mixed, 3 as trad and 2 as sport. Grades run from 5.8 up to 5.11d, so there is a range of options for climbers of different abilities. Among the named routes are Hand Crack at 5.8, Firecracker at 5.11, and The French Kiss at 5.11d. For timing, late spring and early fall tend to be the most comfortable. Typical averages from the nearby Bluestone Lake weather station show May highs around 76°F and September highs around 79°F, with fewer wet days in September than in May. That station sits about 390 feet lower than the area, so temperatures at Savory run a little cooler. Within a short drive are Pipestem Knob Trail, about 6.6 miles away, and Rich Creek, a canoeing spot about 6.8 miles off. Knob Ridge and the Guided Horseback Trail are both a little over 6 miles away.
