The Real Thing Boulder is a bouldering area in Washington's Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest, within the Wenatchee River Ranger District. The Forest Service manages the land, and the area sits about 3 miles from Leavenworth, making it an easy addition to a day spent exploring the surrounding climbing and hiking. Bouldering is the only style of climbing here, with 10 routes ranging from V0 to V8. Breadline is the easiest at V0, and the hardest is a V8 listed as unknown. Lock and Load and Endless Summer sit at V4+ and V6, giving climbers a range from beginner to advanced. Busted Boulder and Lock and Pop Boulder are both about 0.1 mile away, so the area works well for a cluster of boulders on a single outing. The most comfortable months for a visit are late spring through early fall. Typical averages from a nearby weather station at Leavenworth run from highs around 71°F in May to about 78°F in September, with July and August highs near 87°F and the fewest wet days of the year. That station sits about 700 feet lower than the boulders, so temperatures on the rock run cooler.
