Rock Island is a climbing area in the Sanpete Ranger District of the Manti-La Sal National Forest in central Utah, managed by the Forest Service. Several other climbing areas and trails sit right beside it, so it works as a base for exploring the surrounding rock and trails at once. Spring and fall are the most comfortable times to visit. Typical averages from a nearby weather station in Moroni show May highs around 71°F with lows near 37°F, and September highs around 79°F with lows near 42°F. That station sits well below the climbing area, so temperatures up high run cooler. Trash Compactor, Willy Wall and Low Standard Cave are all climbing areas about 0.1 mile away. For an overnight stay, Maple Canyon campground is about 0.2 mile off.
