Short Chossy wall sits above the Matrix climbing area in the Sanpete Ranger District of Manti-La Sal National Forest in southern Utah, on Forest Service land. It is a climbing wall, and its name points to the choss (loose rock) that sets it apart from the surrounding rock. The area is part of a cluster of climbing spots within a few tenths of a mile. The Matrix and Lou's Tavern climbing areas lie about 0.1 mile away, and the Middle Fork climbing area is just as close. The Middle Fork Maple Trail and the Right Fork Trail both start within about 0.3 mile, and Maple Canyon campground is at a similar distance. The wall has eight sport climbing routes, all rated in the 5.5 to 5.10a range on the YDS scale. The Pillar to the right of the chimney is the easiest at 5.5, and several others, including the edge of the choss and the 2nd to the left of the rotten corner crack, are 5.10a. For timing, the most comfortable months are typically late spring and early fall. Typical averages from a nearby weather station in Moroni, Utah, put May highs around 71°F and September highs around 79°F. That station sits about 1,500 feet below the wall, so temperatures on the wall run cooler.
