About Nebo Loop Scenic Byway

Nebo Loop Scenic Byway is a 38.2-mile drive in Utah that carries three designations: National Scenic Byway, National Forest Scenic Byway and Utah State Scenic Byway. Part of the route crosses national forest land, and the towns of Payson and Elk Ridge sit along it. For comfortable weather, late spring and early fall are the best bets. Typical averages from the nearby Nephi weather station run to highs around 70°F in May and 78°F in September, though Nephi sits at about 5,100 feet and temperatures along higher parts of the byway run cooler. Plenty of stops sit right off the road. Payson Lakes and Maple Bench offer camping, while the Bear Trap Ridge Trail and Lizard Lake Trail are both within a short distance of the route.
