The Dark Continent Area is a climbing area in southern Utah, within the Escalante Ranger District of Dixie National Forest, managed by the Forest Service. It sits among a cluster of other climbing spots, with Pangaea about 0.2 miles away and The Planet of the Apes about 0.4 miles away, so it works well as a base for exploring the surrounding crags. The area holds 21 alpine-style routes, with grades ranging from 5.8- up to 5.13. The median grade is 5.11a/b, and the hardest route is Scar, also known as Inflammation Crack, at 5.13. Among the named routes are Hand Cannibal at 5.8-, Prism of Shadows at 5.10a, and Rhodesian Ridgeback at 5.11+. Pine Lake Campground is about 4.6 miles away for an overnight stay, and the Water Canyon Trail is about 3.9 miles away for a hike.
