Carter Military Trail is an easy out-and-back hike of about 3.8 miles on the Flaming Gorge Ranger District of Ashley National Forest in Utah. The trail rises roughly 150 feet from its low point at about 8,600 feet to a high of about 8,714 feet. The Forest Service manages the land. Summer is the most comfortable time to go. Typical averages from a nearby weather station run to highs around 75°F in June and 83°F in July, and temperatures on this trail run cooler than those figures because the station sits about 1,600 feet below it. The Hickerson Park-Birch Creek Road lies about half a mile away, and the Long Park Reservoir Trail is about 1.4 miles off. Lodgepole Creek, a canoeing spot, is about 3 miles away, and Browne Lake campground is about 4.3 miles away.
