Devils Creek is a 5-mile out-and-back hike in Tennessee's Appalachian Ranger District, part of the National Forests in North Carolina. The trail rises from about 3,157 feet to about 3,471 feet, with a total elevation gain of 410 feet. The steepest stretch comes at about 1.9 miles in, where the grade reaches 17 percent. The Forest Service manages the land, and the trail is natural-surfaced and open year-round. For comfortable weather, aim for late spring or early fall. Typical averages from a nearby weather station at Burnsville, North Carolina, run to highs around 73°F in May and 76°F in September, with temperatures on this trail running cooler than those figures because the station sits roughly 650 feet lower. Bikes are allowed on the trail. The closest neighbors are Lost Cove, about 2.4 miles away, and the Temple Hill Trail and Granny Lewis Trail, both within about 2.7 miles. Paddlers can head to Spivey Creek, about 3.3 miles off.
