Area 1 is a bouldering area in Gallitzin State Forest in Pennsylvania, managed by the State Department of Natural Resources. It sits among several other climbing areas, with 56 Boulders about 0.2 miles away and Area 3 about 0.3 miles away, so it works well as part of a day spent exploring the surrounding crags. The area holds 15 boulder problems, all rated from V0-1 up to V5. The easiest are "walk on the moon" at V0-1 and "Ledger" at V1, while "P Diddle" is the hardest at V5. The problems are clustered close together, so it's easy to move from one to another. Summer is the most comfortable time to visit. Typical averages from a nearby weather station in Johnstown run to highs around 79°F in July, with September still near 71°F. Winters are cold, with January highs around 33°F. The John P. Saylor Trail - North Loop starts about 0.4 miles away, and the Boulder Trail is about 1.2 miles off. For a longer outing, the Bog Path and Lost Turkey Trail are both within about 2 miles.
