Staender Ridge is a climbing area within Smith Rock State Park in Oregon, a state park managed as city land. It sits among several other climbing spots in the park, with The Mole and Adit Rock each about 0.1 mile away and Fireplace Boulder about 0.2 mile off. That makes it easy to fit into a day of climbing in the park. The area has six routes, five of them traditional and one sport. The grades range from 5.1 to 5.9, with the sport route, The Long Walk, at 5.7. Among the trad routes, Limestone Chimney and East Chimney are both 5.4, and Desiderata is the hardest at 5.9. The most comfortable months for climbing are typically late spring and early fall. At a nearby weather station, May averages a high of 69°F and September a high of 79°F, while July and August average highs near 88°F and winter highs hover around 42 to 48°F. For a longer outing, the Wolf Tree Trail and Homestead Trail both start within a mile. Skull Hollow campground is about 3.6 miles away for an overnight stay.
