The Monument Area is a climbing area within Smith Rock State Park in Oregon, on city-managed land. It sits among several other climbing spots and trails, with Left Side, Right Side and (yy) Basalt Rimrock all about 0.1 mile away, and Wolf Tree Trail just as close. The climbing here is all sport, and the routes run from about 5.8+ up to 5.13a. Three routes are listed: Henry VIII at 5.8+, Pleasure Principle at 5.10d with a first ascent by Tom Egan and Jeff Frizzel in 1989, and The Product at 5.13a, first climbed by Tom Egan in 1990. For timing, late spring and early fall are the most comfortable. Typical averages from a nearby weather station show May highs around 69°F and September highs around 79°F, while July and August average in the upper 80s. Skull Hollow campground is about 3.9 miles away, and Haystack Lake campground is about 8.3 miles away.
