Sun Dragon Block is a sport climbing area in the Tiller Ranger District of Umpqua National Forest in southwest Oregon, managed by the Forest Service. It sits right alongside two other climbing areas, Emerald City and Log Wall, both about 0.1 mile away, so it fits easily into a cluster of boulders and sport routes in this part of the forest. The climbing here is all sport, with five routes ranging from 5.11b to 5.12a. Blue Streak, Sun Dragon Arete and Riding the Night Wind are among the most popular, and Meteora and The Overseer round out the grade range at 5.12a. Bill Newcomb is the first ascent listed for several of these routes. Summer is the most comfortable time to climb. Typical averages from a nearby weather station run highs around 77°F in July and August, with only about two wet days a month, while winter brings highs in the low 40s and rain on more than half the days of the month.
