Sweet Creek is a moderate hike in the Central Coast Ranger District-ODNRA of Siuslaw National Forest in Oregon, about 5 miles from the town of Mapleton. The Forest Service manages the land, and the trail is a gravel out-and-back that rises from a low point of about 150 feet to a high of about 670 feet, with a total climb of roughly 1,400 feet for the round trip. The trail is rated moderate, and the steepest stretch comes early on, with a 20% grade at about a quarter mile. Bikes are allowed on the gravel surface. Summer is the most comfortable time to go. Typical averages from a nearby weather station in Mapleton show July and August highs around 80°F with lows in the mid-50s, and the station sits about 650 feet lower than the trail's high point, so temperatures up top run cooler. Nearby, Hadsall Creek offers canoeing about 4 miles away, and the North Fork Smith River Trail is a similar distance. Archie Knowles Campground is about 6.6 miles off, and Kentucky Falls is about 5.8 miles away.
