Starwano is a 3.6-mile out-and-back hike in Oregon's Three Sisters Wilderness, within the McKenzie River Ranger District of the Willamette National Forest. The trail is managed by the Forest Service and sits at about 4,800 feet, with a high point of 5,146 feet. The climb is moderate, with a total gain of 736 feet over the round trip, and the steepest stretch comes at about 0.5 miles in, where the grade reaches 23%. The route is natural-surfaced and allows horses, and bikes are not permitted. The trip takes about 1.5 hours, and the trail is open year-round. Summer is the most comfortable time to go. Typical averages from a nearby weather station at Wickiup Dam show July highs around 83°F with only about three wet days, while winter highs sit in the low 40s. Packsaddle Mountain Trail starts just 0.1 mile away. Elk Creek and the South Fork McKenzie River offer paddling within about 3 miles, and Skookum Creek Campground is about 6 miles off.
